Wolong Panda Center Recostruction and Wenchuan Earthquake

Wolong Panda Center Reconstruction After Earthquake: the facilities in Heitaoping Wolong of China Conservation and the Giant Panda Research Center will be reconstructed in Happy Vallye (Xingfu Gou).

Almost all panda facilities has been destroyed in the earthquake, 18 panda enclosures (panda houses) destroyed, other panda enclosures were in danger. And about 6117 hectares in Wolong Reserve was destroyed by earthquake (Wolong Reserve total area about 203601 hectares).

So most of Wolong Research & Conservation staff will migrate to Bifengxia. And the reconstruction site will be slected in Huangcaoping - Shenshuping - Tiantaishan area in Xingfu Valley, Genda township, instead of Heitaoping area.

It will take about 3 years to finish the reconstruction for short-term construction. The Wolong reconstruction are: 7 Wild Panda Conservation Station (Dengsheng station, Mujiangping station, Sanjiang station, Sandaoqiao site, Haoziping site, Lurping site and Genda site), Wuyipeng Renovation, 100 routes for wild tracking; And in Research Center: Research Laboratory (650 sq meters), Animal hospital, Raising & training for panda return to wild, Panda Education Center, Bamboo Base, 30 raising enclosures, 20 breeding enclosures; Digit panda research. In addition, Centers for Disease Control of Panda will be built in Dujiangyan: 40 panda raising enclosures, Panda Research Laboratory, Animal hospital.
